FULL MOON IN TAURUS

This full moon will be conjunct the planet Uranus in the zodiac sign of Taurus.

Our next full moon will occur tomorrow, Friday November 15th, at 1:28pm Pacific Time. The Moon will be at 24 degrees of Taurus, and the Sun will sit exactly opposite the zodiac at 24 degrees of Scorpio. This full moon will only aspect the outer planets (Uranus, Neptune and Pluto), indicating a potential for deep collective transformation.

As always, a full moon is the peak of a lunar cycle. Emotions tend to run high, and all is illuminated for reflection. This time we can gain insight on the lunar cycle that began on November 1st - a.k.a. Samhain, Hallows or the “Witches’ New Year.” What seeds of intention did you plant, and how are they coming along so far? Are any course-corrections needed? Is there anything you can let go of to ease your journey?

Technically speaking, a full moon is simply an exact zodiacal opposition between the Sun and Moon. The opposition is a tense aspect that’s all about opposites attracting and balancing two sides of the same coin. As we enter the last week of Scorpio season, remember that this sign is all about diving into the dark depths of our emotions, alchemizing pain into potential and power, uncovering the murky complexity that makes us human.

Now the full moon in Taurus reminds us that we’re also simply animals. It’s possible for us to just exist in the present moment, enjoying the small uncomplicated pleasures of life, without overthinking everything or wallowing in our feelings. This is a perfect time to let go of anything that will help us feel lighter, calmer, simpler - just letting each moment and experience pass without attachment.

While the moon is in Taurus, take the opportunity to listen to your body, tuning into your intuition and instincts. Honor this dark season with rest and recuperation. Give yourself the space to find your inner calm and quiet; emulate the patient, unhurried bull. Connect with nature, the elements, plants, animals, and all relationships that don’t require words or logic. Lean into your right brain with art, music, and body-centered self-care.

Emulate the patient, unhurried bull during this Taurus full moon.

This is a special Taurus full moon, since it’ll occur only one degree away from Uranus (which is retrograde at 25 degrees). The Sun’s light will illuminate the paradox of Uranus in Taurus: the rebellious planet of change and the future in the conservative sign of consistency and the past. As we enter the home stretch of Uranus’s 7-year journey through Taurus, its meaning has become more clear. We need a revolution of the people. We need to focus on the big important issues, rather than draining our energy with infighting. We need to change our relationship to nature and learn how to achieve sustainability.

Uranus is the Lord of Earthquakes and Lightning Bolts. It’s famous for sudden transformations, from shocking traumas to technological innovations. Uranus is associated with genius, as well as the isolation and rejection that often come with it. This is the planet of authenticity, which rebels against the conditioning of the overculture. Uranus in Taurus is waking us up from a rut we’ve been stubbornly clinging to. It helps us overcome our fears of change, of the unknowable future, of disappointed expectations, of crumbling consistency and stagnating stability. And it promises the prize of true humanitarian progress for all. Uranus is shaking us into alignment with our Taurean values and our true selves.

Rebellious Uranus rotates on an axis that is almost perpendicular to the other planets.

The only additional aspects this full moon will make are harmonious trines and stimulating sextiles with the other two outer planets in our solar system, Neptune and Pluto. The aspects to Neptune (currently in Pisces) direct our attention toward collective emotions, spiritual dimensions, and creative visions for the compassionate future that Uranus is asking us to build.

Pluto is the ruler of Scorpio, currently sitting at the very tail end of Capricorn, only 4 days from entering its 20-year Aquarius era. The full moon will lead us into this massive shift, hopefully with open eyes and clear hearts. Pluto’s involvement in this full moon invites us to simply embrace our wholeness, shadows and all. It evokes the transformative healing power of deep honesty and seeing the big picture beyond our small selves. All natural life must eventually die and decompose to be repurposed in the grand continuous cycle of rebirth. We can’t stop the world from changing or the cosmic wheels from turning, but we can acknowledge and work with them to the best of our abilities.

The full moon chart shows a Moon-Uranus conjunction, as well as sextiles & trines from the Sun-Moon configuration to Neptune & Pluto.

How will this full moon affect you as an individual? The answer depends largely on which pair of houses in your birth chart will contain the Sun and Moon during this event. (For example, my chart will have the Sun in my 6th house and the Moon in my 12th, so I’ll be reflecting on the balance between service and rest, connection and solitude, practicality and spirituality in my life.) Additionally, any planets in your birth chart near 24 degrees of Taurus, Scorpio, or fellow earth and water signs (Virgo, Capricorn, Cancer and Pisces) present personal healing opportunities during this new moon. If you have natal placements near 24 degrees of fellow fixed signs Leo and Aquarius, your lesson will come in the more challenging form of a square aspect, urging you to grow whether you want to or not!

Happy Uranian full moon in Taurus, and may we find more authentic freedom and liberation for all.
