VENUS IN AQUARIUS
Our relationships are about to be electrified as the planet Venus enters the zodiac sign of Aquarius - just in time for the holiday season!
Venus is moving into Aquarius today, Friday December 6th 2024, at 10:13pm Pacific Time (which will be December 7th in most of the world). It’ll move through that sign until the beginning of the new year on January 2nd, 2025.
Venus is the relational planet, the goddess of love and peace and beauty. It most famously governs relationships, but also money, art, and balance and justice of all kinds. In Capricorn, Venus was focused on hard work, stability and long-term commitment. But now it’s in Aquarius, which is the sign of the future, of humanitarianism and genius and innovation and free unique authenticity. Aquarius is the alien, the weirdo who’s not afraid to march to the beat of their own drum.
So the next month is going to be about refreshing our relationships. It’s about communicating more authentically with the people in our lives about who we’ve become, as we grow over time and as the world changes. Especially now during the holiday season, many people are spending time with family and slipping back into old patterns of relating that might be dysfunctional, or simply no longer represent who you now are as a person. So Venus in Aquarius is a good chance to update some of that programming, shift some of those old social habits, and to work on relating to people from a more authentic, honest place.
As we change over time, our relationships necessarily have to change as well. Maybe they become deeper, or more distant, or the boundaries just shift in some way. Sometimes, the best thing to do for you and the other person is to simply end the relationship in its current form. Follow whatever course most honors the integrity and freedom of everyone involved and allows you to continue growing.
Venus in Aquarius is also a time when we can update the way that we regulate our emotions and find inner balance. It’s a chance to take a clear look at your long-term finances (which isn’t a bad idea anyway here at the end of the year). This is also an opportunity to bring some renewed verve and originality to your creative projects, or maybe just change it up in terms of the media and art you usually consume. And on a larger scale, this transit wants us to rebalance the scales of justice in a progressive, humanitarian direction.
Soon after entering Aquarius, Venus will meet up with Pluto, which just went into this sign a few weeks ago. This is the planet of death, rebirth and transformation, of pain and potential and power. So this conjunction of Venus and Pluto could bring up some deep stuff, especially in your relationships. It invites us to heal through deep honesty and the challenging process of shadow work, and to truly let go of what’s not serving us anymore. Pluto can help this to be a truly transformative time for us, if we let it, and if we’re brave enough to look clearly at ourselves and our relationships.
Venus will also be opposite Mars soon, which is stationing retrograde today in early Leo. Freedom-loving Mars is the planet of courage, action, energy and drive. So this is a good chance to bravely address issues in our relationships, to reflect on anger and conflict, and to get in touch with our bodies - which is where our emotions live, and a crucial tool for working with them.
Finally, Venus will soon trine the moon’s south node in its home sign Libra - and appropriately, the north node is in Aries, ruled by Mars. So both of the nodes are trine to their rulers, an aspect of opportunity and harmoniously flowing energy. This is one of our final chances to really work with these lunar nodes, letting go of the Venusian shadows of indecision, people-pleasing, over-compromising, and hiding from the truth to “keep the peace” or “not rock the boat.”
Of course, Venus will affect everyone differently based on our unique individual birth charts. Take a look at what house of your chart Venus will be traveling through during its time in Aquarius, showing you which area of your life the relational planet is activating. Whatever the circumstance, I hope we can all use this transit to become more authentic in our relationships with others and ourselves.
