LEO FULL MOON
The upcoming full moon in Leo is highly charged, illuminated by the sun in revolutionary Aquarius, and electrified by a T-square to unpredictable Uranus!
The moon will be full on Wednesday February 12th at 5:54 am Pacific time, sitting at 24 degrees of Leo, with the Sun across the zodiac (and next to Mercury) at 24 degrees of Aquarius.
The opposing signs of Leo and Aquarius both have to do with community and groups of people. Leo famously likes to be the center of attention, ruled by the Sun, the center of the solar system. This is the sign of creative self-expression and performance - but standing on stage doesn’t mean much unless you have an audience to pay attention to you. Meanwhile, Aquarius is the sign of the rebel, the genius, the exile, the alien hovering above the crowd. It marches to the beat of its own drum, even if it’s a lonely path sometimes. It gains perspective on groups of people from the outside, rather than from the inside like Leo.
While Leo is a fire sign - all about energy and passion and the courage to be vulnerable - Aquarius is a cerebral air sign, focused on ideas and strategies. But both of these are fixed signs, holding steady in their positions and identities, but also sometimes stubborn and resistant to needed change.
With a full moon, the moon is fully illuminated by the sun and as far away from it as possible. These events are all about gaining the clarity we need to balance these different parts of ourselves, our lives, and our world. Leo reminds us of the importance of community, of being loved by and loving others, of sharing our light with the world, of spontaneously and joyfully expressing ourselves to magnetize the right people into our lives. Aquarius reminds us of the importance of freedom and authenticity, of genuinely being ourselves and living our own lives, of finding our people and the community that’s right for us, and that it’s better to be alone than to be in the wrong relationships.
This full moon is encouraging us to avoid the Aquarian pitfall of dissociation and to feel whatever emotions we’re actually feeling, regardless of what others think, and then get aligned with ourselves and others from that genuine place.
New moons are all about planting seeds, but full moons are all about pulling weeds. As the moon reflects the sun’s bright light, we can see and feel what isn’t working for us, to course-correct for the second half of the lunar cycle. So think back to the intentions you set and the seeds you planted two weeks ago during the new moon in Aquarius, that powerful fresh start. What are you cultivating right now? How’s that going? What has become clear over the last fortnight, and how can you tweak it over the coming weeks?
The full moon in Leo, opposite the sun and Mercury in Aquarius, both in a T-square to Uranus in Taurus.
This full moon is electrified by unpredictable Uranus - the ruling planet of Aquarius - sitting in a very close T-square to this full moon, within 1 degree of an exact square with both the moon and the sun. This highlights the importance of that Aquarian authenticity, and adds revolutionary motivations to the heightened emotions of the full moon. Uranus, the lord of earthquakes and lightning bolts, is here to shake things up, to shake loose all the old stagnant pieces that no longer fit in the puzzle of our lives, to make room for the new and for change. But it’s up to us to direct what to do with that new room that’s created. Remember that a full moon is the time to let go of things. So what weeds are you pulling under this bright lunar light?
You’ll get some clues to this by looking at your birth chart. See what pair of houses of your chart contain 24 degrees of Leo and Aquarius. Maybe it’s your 4th house of home and your 10th house of work, or your 1st house of self and your 7th house of relationships, or your 6th house of physical health and your 12th house of mental health. This full moon is a time to balance and recalibrate those areas of your life, guided by Aquarian authenticity and Leonian vulnerability. So best of luck, and happy full moon in Leo!
